Asthma Awarenes Month: Celebrating the Beauty of One Breath

One of the most valuable lessons in life comes with the realization that beauty can exist within the simplest places. Despite some of the very magnificent things that life has to offer, some of the most magical moments happen when each of us do something as simple as taking a breath. On the surface, it’s just another habit that helps to shape the pattern of each day. But in reality, it’s a beautiful and harmonious exchange that threads each moment together in order to keep us alive. In celebration of this and other similar notions, many organizations have gathered to celebrate Asthma Awareness Month. From a sustainable standpoint, this call for awareness parallels with the everlasting call for clean, toxic free air.

The first step to upping your awareness is to discover the Air Quality Index for the area you live or travel to on a frequent basis. Organizations such as AirNow provide information regarding the air quality index for local cities. The Environmental Protection Agency also provides data regarding air quality trends on a local and national level. The next step is to bring a level of awareness to your everyday habits. Are you utilizing environmentally sound practices such as car sharing, public transportation, or taking a walk when you have the option? Even if you choose to implement one of these practices for one day out of the week, it’s still a small shift for change. Each small practice can make it easier to enjoy the simple beauty of taking one breath.
