Earth Day 2011

At the end of each month, many of us break out our checkbooks, bank
statements, and other documents in order to begin the process of
reconciling our personal finances. As we part ways with April and
make room for May, keep in mind that our finances aren't the only
accounts that need to be settled. Once again, Earth Day is upon us,
and on this day-everyone is accountable! In addition to participating
in the selection of celebratory events in your community, I urge you
to make this day personal. Forty one years ago, a political figure
gave birth to the concept of "Earth Day" by encouraging local
communities to hold teach-ins: events where people gathered to share
and receive knowledge about environmentalism and all things
sustainable. What do you have to share? The earth has taught us that
you don't need a degree or any credentials to discover the beauty of
life. All you need is your eyes to see and your heart to listen. So
today, I urge you to go out and share that beauty. Have a conversation
about the delicious apple you munched on, or the sweet flowers
blooming outside your window. Discuss what you can do to make sure
that we can continue to enjoy the natural beauty of this great Earth
for generations to come. Happy Earth Day!
