Exceptional Efforts: The Green Awards

Behind each step taken towards "greening" our lives, there is a driving force that has influenced us greatly enough to alter some part of our lifestyle. This force is usually in form of an individual or organization that has made a statement strong enough to move us from the rock of familiarity towards the rock of change. Have your thoughts or ideas acted as a catalyst for change? If this is the case, it's time to to take your notions to a national level. You can do this by nominating yourself to participate in the Green Awards, a program that aims to recognize significant sustainable efforts within communities around the country.

The Green Awards is a great concept, not merely because of the fact that the winner can receive a reward of up to $25,000, but because it encourages people to share their sustainable ways with fellow citizens. The program will recognize individuals that have made a positive impact on their community as one of the following: a green civic leader, green entrepreneur, green local organizer, or green parent. Participants are asked to select a category that applies to them, then create both an essay and video that accurately reflects their idea. Submissions will be accepted until Sunday, March 6th at 11:59 pm, and the voting period for all ideas will end on Saturday, March 12.
