Jamie Oliver is Back, America Listen Up!

Tonight is the season premier of Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. I can tell you I don't watch much TV, but this is a worthwhile hour to spend in front of the tube.

If you missed last season, Jamie went to a town in Virgiina deemed the unhealthiest in the USA. This season Mr. Oliver is in LA, trying to convince the school board to bring a healthy menu to just one school as a test. It was amazing to watch the school board, stare down Jamie Oliver and basically send him to detention without even the common decency to hear what he had to say.

I guess old habits die hard, and big agriculture is the backbone of these habits, driving the "sugar bus". Speaking of the bus, Jamie drove his point home for parents by filling an empty school bus with 57 tons of sugar. The white stuff overflowed the vehicle and is what is consumed in the LA school district in one week.

It's amazing that we have to have a guy from across the pond come to America to expose to Americans, that what they are feeding their children in schools and fast food joints is poison. Come on, scrap meat washed with ammonia? Believe it or not, the FDA allows beef scrap to be washed in ammonia (to kill the e-coli) and then be added to hamburger meat as a filler.

A local fast food restaurant owner allows Jamie to examine his menu and make some suggestions. None of the healthier ideas Jamie offers up make the owner want to change his menu. Hey, the guy is making money, he even confessed that he would not feed his own kids at home some of the chemical laden crap that he fed his customers.

Jamie Oliver's Food Revolutin is on Tuesday nights at 8 PM. I actually would have been happier if it was a two hour episode. I could not get to the remote fast enough to turn off the next show, Dancing with the Stars, which, in my opinion, is a true dumbing down of America. Ah quiet, TV is off.
