World Water Week: Piecing the Puzzle Together

From a certain perspective, life can be viewed as a giant puzzle, and we, the puzzle-makers. For the most part, we are responsible for the task of finding the pieces of life, and working to make sure they fit together in a way that creates peace, harmony, and of course, sustainability. Fortunately, the puzzle of life is pre-set in a way; there are certain pieces that are already glued to the framework and provide vital hints that lead us in the right direction. Take the concept of water, for example. As human beings, our bodies are roughly comprised of sixty percent of this substance, while the earth is comprised of seventy percent. This natural abundance in both our internal and external environment is nature's inherent way of communicating the importance of this vital element. Clearly, this is an integral piece to the puzzle of life; we don't have the liberty of allowing it to become uprooted from the framework and lost among the other pieces.

I urge you to keep this in mind as people around the world join in thought and effort to celebrate World Water Week. A countless number of organizations have created their own individual programs with focus on various issues ranging from water purification to aquatic conservation, go check them out. You don't necessarily have to donate to contribute to these efforts; you can simply take a closer look at your personal water practices. For the duration of the week, vow to use a cup of water when brushing your teeth; eliminate the need to waste water by having the faucet running. If you drink bottled water and don't finish it, find a use for the unused portion; throw it on your plants or pour it into your iron.
