Morris County About
Morris County "Green"
Land on "Green" in Morris County. The Awarenest wants to help you find green and socially conscious businesses and resources close to home.
Morris County has made great strides in the new green economy. Our state is home to "Sustainable Jersey" a certification program for municipalities in New Jersey that want to go green, control their costs, save money, and take steps to sustain their quality of life. The following three towns are now certified and many more have taken flight toward certification.
* Chatham
* Morristown
* Mount Olive
Morris County is also the home of a remarkable 3.2 megawatt solar power project financed through the recently formed (2002) Morris County Improvement Authority. The improvement authority received $22.3 Million in 2009 for 19 locations which include:
• Boonton High School
• John Hill School
• School Street School
• Morris Hills High School
• Morris Knolls High School
• Mountain Lakes High School
• Wildwood School
• Brooklawn Middle School
• Central Middle School
• Littleton Elementary School
• Troy Hills Elementary School
• West Morris Central High School
• West Morris Mendham High School
• Mennen Ice Rink #1, 2 and 3
• Schuyler Building
The 19 projects will be designed and installed by Plainfield-based SunDurance Energy Inc., and the work is expected to commence this Spring. That’s great news for Morris County and for other counties and locales who will look to our county as an example of what can be accomplished in terms of going green in a big way!
